MARKET DAY PICK UP – is Wednesday, March 3rd from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Faith gym.  Please mark your calendars and we’ll see you then!

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK – This Sunday marks the beginning of our celebrations of Lutheran Schools and the ministry they provide across the country.  This year’s theme, Securing Each Child’s Future – For a Life of Service, emphasizes the mission in that ministry.  Please take note of the special activities designed to help us celebrate in the flyer coming home today.  We hope you plan to take part in each of them, beginning with CONCORDIA SUNDAY on March 7th!

HATS FOR HAITI – In addition to our March and April offerings being directed to assist Lutheran Schools affected by the tragedy in Haiti, we are collecting dollars daily.  Beginning Monday, March 8th through Friday, March 12th, students can bring a dollar to their teacher on any or every day and receive permission to wear a hat to school for the day.  Bring a buck every day and wear a hat all week long!  Help us help Haiti ~ have fun, wear a hat!

ACHIEVEMENT TESTS – At Concordia, we give two different standardized tests in grades 2-8: the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).  This year these will be given Monday, March 15h through Friday, March 26th.

-         The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) provides an in-depth assessment of a student’s achievement and compares that achievement to students of the same grade level across the country.  Tests in reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, and information sources provide reliable and comprehensive information about both the development of students’ skills and their ability to think critically.

-         The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) measures students’ abilities to reason with words, quantitative concepts, and spatial/figural drawings, and compares that with students of the same age and grade across the country.  The primary purpose of the CogAT is to assess students’ reasoning and problem-solving abilities.  This test does not measure any academic achievement

KRINGLE WITH THE KIDS & JOINT CHAPEL will be held next Wednesday at the Faith campus.  Parents, grandparents, and other special individuals are invited to come for Kringle beginning at 8:15AM and stay for chapel following fellowship.  Preschool thru Second Grade will hold classes at Faith that day.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend!

WARM WINTERIM THANKS to all of our family, friends, and teachers who donated their time, talents, and treasurers to another wonderful Winterim!  The students thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to experience a variety of new and interesting things.  Special thanks to Mrs. Mortenson and Mrs. Kosmala for the hours of sweat (and tears?) coordinating this unique learning opportunity.

“GOTCHAS” Our program can use any donations that you can provide.  These extras are enjoyed and appreciated greatly by our students.  This week’s winners received their choice of an afternoon snack.  Our winners are as follows in grades 3-5:  Seth M., Guy M. and Kenny P.; in grades 6-8:  Tyler V.  Congratulations to our winners!

A VERSE TO REMEMBER (James 1:26) “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.”

Thought for the day:  Never utter in your neighbor’s absence what you wouldn’t say in his presence.
