Mrs. Mortenson - First Grade/Second Grade
My name is Phyllis Mortenson. I am in my sixteenth year of teaching at
Concordia Lutheran School. I taught Kindergarten for the first nine
years, and am enjoying my seventh year as the First Grade teacher.
My husband of thirty-one years, Jeff Mortenson, is the Pastor of
Faith Lutheran Church. Our son, Andrew, is a 2000 graduate of Concordia
and a 2004 graduate of Racine Lutheran High School. He is almost
finished with his Business degree from Concordia University Wisconsin
and is a financial advisor for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. This
summer he married Katie who has one more year at CUW before she will
also be a Lutheran educator.
Even when I was in grade school, I knew I wanted to be a teacher
someday. Christ was an important part of our lives as I was growing up,
and since I have many relatives who are Lutheran pastors and teachers, I
always knew I would be a Lutheran teacher. I count it a great privilege
to be able to share God’s Word and my faith with my students on a daily
basis.
I graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1973. I attended
Concordia College in Ann Arbor, Michigan for two years and graduated
from Concordia Teachers’ College in River Forest, Illinois in 1977.
I have taught in Lutheran schools in Palatine, Illinois and in
Olivette, Missouri.
In 1983 my husband received his first call to a dual parish in west
central Missouri. He served at Trinity Lutheran Churches in Appleton
City and Creighton, Missouri for eleven years. I was active in our
congregations and I served on the Missouri District Board for Youth
Ministry. I was also active in the community.
In 1994 my husband became the pastor at Faith Lutheran Church and I
began teaching at Concordia Lutheran School. I am active in many areas
of the ministry at Faith.
